INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrest on Tuesday morning is connected to the theft of a pink handgun from a popular gun store, officials say.

Don’s Guns, 3807 Lafayette Road, says a woman walked into the store Monday afternoon . She asked to view a .380-caliber handgun with a pink handle and ran off with it .

Police say it all started when a woman was caught trying to shoplift from King Beauty Supply on Arlington Avenue. She pulled out a handgun and threatened the store’s employees before fleeing to her car. Employees called police who immediately started searching for the car.

An East District officer located the suspect and her car and tried to initiate a traffic stop. Police say the suspect, later identified as Kristol Toms, refused to stop and nearly hit several construction officers as she tried to flee. She then started throwing products from King’s out the window as she attempted to elude police.

Officers caught up with Toms as she was putting a key into the front door of her home.

Police searched her car and found what they call “a distinctive small caliber weapon.” 24-Hour News 8′s crew on the scene captured officers inventorying the pink-handled firearm.

Toms was taken into custody for questioning. IMPD tells 24-Hour News 8 it will release more details as they become available.
