SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (The Shelbyville News) – A Shelbyville mother is facing a felony neglect charge after police say she left her baby alone in a hot car, 24-Hour News 8’s news partner, The Shelbyville News , reports.
The charge stems from an incident on Sunday night, during which time police say 23-year-old mom Hailey Siegel told them she accidentally left the 5-month-old in the car for 15 minutes.
Witnesses called police when they saw the baby alone in the car in the Walmart parking lot. The car’s front windows were down and the back ones were partially down. The temperature was in the mid-80s when the child was discovered.
Siegel was arrested and now faces a Class D felony charge of neglect of a dependent. The child was released to its father. Siegel was released from jail on bond.
