INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A Central Indiana woman was in for a surpirse when a social worker called to say her 1-year-old daughter applied for a job. How? Because someone stole her social security number.

She got the call from out of the blue. The caller on the line, was her social worker.

“She said, Ms. Williams, I heard your 1-year-old daughter applied for job,” said Williams. “I said how is she going to have a job she is only one?”

This is possible because someone stole her daughter’s Social Security Number. The mysterious person applied for a job 50 miles away in Ogden, Indiana. Investigators are still trying to figure out who is responsible for this crime, and how they got the toddlers number.

“Its very frustrating,” said Williams. “This is my first child and I’ve never had nothing happen like this.”

Here’s what you can do if this happens to your child.

1. File a Police Report 2 Contact Federal Trade, that will help investigators across the nation track down the thieves. 3. Visit your local Social Security Administration Office and tell them the problem, so they can keep track of anything suspicious.

There are also several sites that will monitor your child’s Social Security number for a monthly fee. Whenever there is suspicious activity the parents will get an alert.
