ST. CLAIR COUNTY A three-year-old boy from Belleville was killed in a one-vehicle accident Surday afternoon in St. Clair County.
Illinois Ste Police said the boy, Taiseer Noubani, was being held on the lap of a passenger in the rear passenger se shortly after noon when he was thrown from the vehicle when it failed to negotie a curve and the van lost control, landing on top of the boy.
Police said a mini van, driven by Lma E. Awwad, 23, of Belleville, was going east on on North Belt West, just east of Illinois Route 13, when it failed to negotie a curve and entered the oncoming lane. The driver over-corrected and caused the van to spin out and go off the road, police said. The boy was being held on the lap of Mohammed E. Awwad, 18, of Belleville.
The driver said she was driving about 60 mph in a 45 mph zone while taking the boy to the hospital for a facial injury th happened home. Witnesses told police they estimed the van to be traveling about 60 to 65 mph.
The driver and Awwad suffered minor injuries. Only the driver was wearing a se belt.
