At least two people were stabbed on a VTA light rail station platform near the county government center in San Jose late Thursday night, police said.
The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office had arrested two men in the stabbing and said they had located two men who had been cut with some sort of long knife or dagger. Both victims were taken to the hospital but none of the injuries were considered life threatening.
The stabbing occurred about 11 p.m. at the Civic Center light rail station at 1st and Mission streets, sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Rick Sung said. The station is located next to the county government hub that includes the Hall of Justice and the main county government building — and is typically swarming with police cruisers during the day. Several bail bonds shops are located on the other side of the street.
Deputies who arrived at the station issued a countywide alert and, with the help of San Jose police officers, quickly arrested a suspect.
Although the stabbing happened in San Jose, sheriff’s deputies took over the investigation because they patrol all crimes that happen on Valley Transportation Authority light rail platforms. But major crimes don’t often occur at transit hubs around the county.
“It is pretty rare,” Sung said.
The suspects names will not being released until they are booked.
