LAFAYETTE, Ind. – NewsChannel 18 has more information on the Lafayette woman who was allegedly raped by a homeless man . Lafayette Police Detective Mark Pinkard calls it a “brutal victimization.”

“It was bad for both for her and for her son,” Pinkard said. “She was traumatized in that her son had to witness her be attacked and she was obviously stricken by this. It took its toll both mentally and physically.”

Court documents show Dash repeatedly assaulted his victim and threatened to kill her and her son. As he raped her, Dash allegedly made the 4-year-old watch. Despite what Dash allegedly put his victim through, Pinkard said Dash did not seem overly threatening.

“He was very talkative, mostly cooperative and sometimes hard to talk with,” said Pinkard.

Pinkard said he was driving along 4th Street in Lafayette when he saw Dash walking near the crime scene. He was returning to where it all allegedly happened.

Pinkard said it is not uncommon for a suspect to return to the scene of the crime. Pinkard said even though 25-year-old Daniel Dash is behind bars, the investigation into what he did continues.

Pinkard said the prosecutor’s office was able to charge Dash with 15 felonies because the details the victim remembered were so vivid.

NewsChannel 18 will continue to follow this case.
