Lake Park man arrested after confronting girlfriend for ‘casting spells’

— A Lake Park man was arrested for assault on Tuesday after he admitted to confronting his girlfriend over the possibility of her trying to cast a spell on him.

Rubin Leonard Hugee, 29, is being held at the Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bond. He is facing charges of aggravated assault and battery.

Riviera Beach Police officers were dispatched to the 700 block of West 5th Street on Tuesday where they found Hugee and his girlfriend of seven years standing in the yard of a home. The girlfriend was holding her hands to her face and crying, according to the probable cause affidavit.

The 28-year-old woman, whose name is withheld in the affidavit, told officers she had gone to her godmother’s house seeking relationship advice when Hugee showed up and began to argue. S

Quake anniversary holiday ‘counter-productive’

A public holiday marking the anniversary of the February 22 earthquake would be “counter-productive”, the Canterbury Employers’ Chamber of Commerce says.

The Christchurch City Council yesterday announced plans for a civic memorial service from noon to 1.30pm on February 22 at North Hagley Park, with the Christchurch Earthquake Awards to follow.

The magnitude-6.3 quake that struck the city killed 182 people.

No plans for a public holiday on February 22 were announced yesterday. A spokesman for Labour Minister Kate Wilkinson said if any decision was to be made by Cabinet, it would not be until it met on January 25.

Fresno, CA: When Faye was wrongfully terminated from her job as a dialysis nurse, she knew it was due to discrimination. And she knows discrimination is a violation of the California Labor Law. Lincoln County jurors will decided fate of teen over alleged school shooting plot

Lincoln County jurors soon will consider the case of Donald G. Wers, who is accused of plotting a school massacre.

Wers, 18, didn’t carry out his alleged thre on the students Winfield High School, but police documents detail a plan nearly as frightening as the one th took place Columbine High School in 1999.

Police said Wers, who was a senior last spring, planned to run through the halls and shoot as many people as possible. He was going to tack the school’s resource officer first, get her gun and use it in the massacre, police said.

In addition, detectives recovered evidence from Wers’ computer th showed he had researched how to build and shoot weapons.
