Bodies found in southern Indiana

SALEM, Ind. (AP) – A man and a woman have been arrested after authorities found two bodies in an outbuilding near Salem in southern Indiana.

State police say 25-year-old Timothy R. Orman and 23-year-old Tammy M. Spengler of Palmyra were being held without bond Thursday on preliminary charges of murder. Spengler is in the Washington County Jail and Orman is in the Floyd County Jail, where he was already being held on unrelated charges.

Authorities found the bodies after receiving a phone tip.

Autopsies on the bodies were performed Thursday but positive identification was not made on either body.

Surgeon General Honors Giffords Intern

ANAHEIM, Calif. The U.S. Surgeon General has honored congressional intern credited with saving Arizona Rep. Gabriella Gifford’s life after she was shot in the head.

On behalf of the National Health Occupations Students of America organization, Surgeon General Regina Benjamin presented Daniel Hernandez with the Heroes Award.

The Orange County Register says Wednesday’s presentation was made at the Anaheim Convention Center during a conference for students interested in health professions.

Some 6,500 students applauded the 21yearold Hernandez, who told them people who make a lifetime commitment to helping others are the real heroes.

Crash leads to huge marijuana bust

NEWTON COUNTY, Ind. – A chain of events that began with a car crash in led to two arrests in Newton County and the discovery of hundreds of marijuana plants.

On June 17, Newton County Officers received reports of a vehicle leaving the roadway and striking several tombstones at Goodland Cemetery on County Road 550 East, then fleeing the area. Police said a witness directed officers to a home on County Road 1500 South, where the vehicle was parked.

While investigating the crash, Deputy David Hoaks noticed that the driver, 47-year-old Daniel Miller was intoxicated.

2nd attack in a week reported on Monon

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police say a week after a shooting on the Monon Trail, a second man reported being attacked.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police were called to St. Vincent Hospital at about 6:30 a.m. Thursday, and a 34-year-old man told them he was out around dawn walking his dog along the Monon near 61st Street when two men came up from behind and hit him in the head.

He told police he fell to the ground and was hit in the face several times. He said two two men wearing all black went through his pockets. W
